I am a "lister".
I admit it - I think everything should be on a list. I have a to do list that has things that I do daily to help me become a better blogger. Try these out and see how it works for you. You should be able to get through the whole list (with the exception of #3 and #5) in about an hour.
1. I read. I read at least 10 blogs a day to keep up with what's happening and meet new bloggers. My high school English teacher told me that if you don't read - you won't be able to be a good writer.
2. I write. I write at least 2 blog entries - one to be published right away, and one to be published at a later time. I won't always make it through my to do list, so it is nice to know that I have a post going out every day, whether I write that day or not. It is kind of like a blog savings account for use when I go on vacation or take a day off.
3. I take pictures. I carry my phone, tablet, or camera (sometimes all of them) so that I can capture images that help me write. It is kind of like a photo notepad that reminds me of the things I have done or seen so that I can go back and write about them later.
4. I read my bio. I am definitely a different person today, than I was when I wrote my bio and "About Us" page. I go back and look at it to make sure that it is an accurate reflection of who I am at this moment.
5. I read my email. Once you start blogging daily, and getting feedback, you will get noticed! I check my email for opportunities first thing in the morning, at lunch time, and before I go to bed.
6. I reply to my mentions on Twitter. I am not a huge celebrity, so I don't have millions of mentions on Twitter - so there is no reason that I can't reply to them all with a "Thanks for the RT" or "Thanks for the mention!" I really am thankful that people find what I write interesting enough to share with their followers.
7. I reply to comments on my blog. I appreciate that people have taken the time to comment on my posts, so I thank them for commenting and reply. A lot of times it leads me to other interesting blogs that I'd like to read or follow.
8. I check my Facebook fan page. I have a reasonable number of "likes" on Facebook, and many of the people who like the page aren't regular visitors to the site. Knowing how the interactions are going on Facebook helps me to tailor my wall posts to that audience.
9. I read the top stories and check the local calendar in the online version of my local paper. It is important to know what is going on around you as a blogger. You may find that there's someone in your network that you can share that information with.
10. Share. Read a blog that you liked? Found a post that your readers will enjoy? I share interesting posts, contests, and giveaways on Twitter or Facebook...
If you have other things that you do daily that help you become a better blogger, please share in the comments section.
