Sesame Street..... I grew up on it. It has changed quite a bit since the albums, the Roosevelt Franklin songs like "the Skin I'm In", or rapping characters like Mobity Mosely (from the 70's), but their progressive attitude and positive, often ahead of its time vision, hasn't changed at all.
I was invited with two of my little ones to try out their brand new video game that is set to be released on October 11, 2011 at the Children's Digital Media Center at Georgetown University. I really didn't know what to expect, since most of the video games cranked out for kids their ages (5 and 6) are not very well produced. I see the graphics and cool options created for games for more mature players, and I don't understand why that level of creativity isn't available for younger kids. Well, leave it to Sesame Street and Double Fine Productions (published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment) to produce a game for the XBox Kinect that is amazing.
The game allows parents to get involved in the game and play with their kids. When you say, just a few more minutes, it really can be just a few more minutes because each activity is short, and can be stopped and returned to later on. In true Sesame Street fashion, there is dancing... and Elmo.
I wasn't ready to see Cookie Monster with legs, but - I guess he needs them for dancing.
It got my kids up and moving which is going to be more and more difficult as the winter sets in. I have three Caribbean children who dislike cold weather as much as I do, so running around outside when it is cold is not an option.
Check out the pics of the kids, parents, and the developer from Double Fine Productions getting totally into the game. Funny enough, he explained to me that the engine used came from a Rated M game. You can read more about that here. Very cool stuff for the gamer/geek in you.
The game is available on October 11, 2011 - if you have kids 3 to 6, it is well worth the purchase.
